KATYA ORPHALI Biography, written in partnership with Lindenbaum & Associates

Katya Orphali’s colorful and vivid paintings belie her quiet demeanor.  An introspective, soft-spoken nine-year-old, Katya has been drawing since the age of five.  She began working with oil on canvas when she was six – fully two years younger than her fellow art students.  “I love to paint and draw,” says Katya.  “Even if I’m having a bad day, just going to the art studio clears my mind, and then pure and good ideas come to me.  And I can express myself in any way…I could be just scribbling and still expressing myself.  It’s what I love best about being an artist.”
Although this is Katya’s first exhibition, in 2004 at the age of 6 she won an art competition that was staged by the Russian Church in Hollywood.  Katya’s submission took first place among a field of twenty 6-16-year-olds.
While much of Katya’s work is in the form of landscapes and animals, she is also interested in portraiture and fashion design.
