The legendary Orpheum Theatre recently underwent a major renovation and restoration, the spirit of which was to restore it to its former glory while enhancing the theater with state-of-the-art technology.
The beauty and elegance of the historic Orpheum provide an ideal backdrop for live performances, location filming, special events, and film screenings.

Inside the elegant auditorium, dramatic 12-ft. tall crystal and bronze chandeliers hang from gold and copper leaf ceilings and rich silk fabric in the fleur-de-lis mode covers the acoustical sidewall panels.  Newly-installed upholstered seats feature historically-inspired decorative aisle standards.

The theater’s marble lobby offers an inviting space with beautifully designed and maintained chandeliers, colorful frescoes, a lovely art nouveau bronze statue, and marble staircases that lead up to the mezzanine.

THEATER SPECIFICATIONS

AUDITORIUM
The Orpheum’s spacious auditorium, orchestra, loge, balcony, and side boxes offer newly-installed upholstered seats – comfortable accommodation for over 2,142 people.
The first five rows can be removed to create extra space for camera crews, a
dance floor, etc.
The auditorium and balcony are wheelchair accessible

STAGE
The stage, which measures 30” x 50’, is completely upgraded with all new rigging and electrical, making the facility more user-friendly to promoters, film companies and event producers.

ORCHESTRA PIT
The Orpheum is home to the Mighty Wurlitzer organ, the last of the great theater organs remaining on Broadway and one of only three original theater organs still existing in Southern California theaters.  This beautiful instrument is moveable to either side of the orchestra pit, or can be stored backstage.
The orchestra pit accommodates up to 16 musicians.

LOBBY
The lobby’s white marble walls are beautifully restored and new plush carpeting replicating the lavish pattern of the original has been installed.  This lovely space accommodates up to 200 for cocktail parties, hors d’oeuvres, bar setups, coffee & dessert bars, and much more.

MEZZANINE
The mezzanine, which overlooks the theater’s lobby, is a wonderful, out-of-the-way space that lends itself well to silent auctions, event overflows, exhibition space, and other uses.  This area accommodates up to __ people.

LOUNGE
The Orpheum’s handsome wood-paneled lounge can handle up to 175 people. The room’s decorative fireplace adds an inviting touch.  A separate private cocktail lounge and food preparation room are well-equipped and conveniently located for parties and other events.

AIR CONDITIONING
An essential part of the renovation is the installation of an energy efficient central air conditioning system throughout the venue.   In the auditorium, cool air rises up through the floor under the seats, allowing immediate comfort.

PROJECTION BOOTH
For films screenings and movie premieres, the projection booth contains two 35mm projectors with Dolby digital Stereo and Surround Sound.
There are two follow-spots for live performances or as an added source of light.

SOUND
Although the theater has excellent natural acoustics – normally pitched speaking voices can be heard in the last row of the auditorium and upper balcony – the Orpheum now offers 24-speaker Dolby Surround Sound for film and live performances.
The new public address system is a significant addition for any kind of event.

DRESSING ROOMS
The star dressing room is an 800 square foot master suite, which includes a brand new full bathroom and a makeup room with adjoining lavatory.  The suite includes satellite TV and Internet access.
Also backstage are three floors of dressing rooms (23 in all) with showers.  Stairs and an elevator connect all dressing rooms.

GREEN ROOM
Conveniently located under the stage, the green room can be used as a lounge or for wardrobe, rehearsals, storage, technical production, and more.  A laundry room is easily accessible from the green room and dressing rooms.

RESTROOMS
All restrooms have been attractively enhanced, upgraded and expanded.  The ladies’ room is now triple its original capacity.

ELEVATORS
The theater offers two elevators, both 2,000 lbs. capacity.  The front elevator, for guest use, is located at the front lobby area and provides access to the downstairs lounge and the mezzanine and balcony levels.
The backstage elevator is adjacent to the dressing rooms and rear entry for use by talent and production.

ACCESS
The theater is accessible from the alleyway in the rear of the theater through two entrances (rear of lobby and backstage).  The loading entrance is adjacent to the backstage elevator.

PARKING
There are more than 1300 parking spaces – all within one block of the theater – many of which are behind and adjacent to the venue.
The parking lots at the rear of the theater and the alleyway can easily accommodate catering and equipment trucks, trailers, lunch tables, and more.

PROXIMITY
The Orpheum’s central downtown location offers easy access for many different uses, such as special events, location shoots, live performances, fundraisers, and more.  It is in close proximity to:
Freeways – 110, 5, 101, 10

SECURITY
The Orpheum is located in a quiet, well-lit and secure area.  However, the Orpheum Theatre’s staff is happy to provide professional event security to enhance the comfort and well-being of its guests.

Back page:

When planning began in 1923 for the Orpheum Theatre as the fourth and final house operated by the Orpheum vaudeville circuit in Los Angeles, who could have foretold the memories this magnificent venue would harbor over the years?
Since its February 15, 1926, opening the Orpheum has played host to some of the most venerable names in show business—from burlesque queen Sally Rand, a young Judy Garland (as Francis Gumm) and comedian Jack Benny, to jazz greats like Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.   The 1960s brought a completely new dimension to the theater – “rock and roll” – with performers such as Little Richard, Aretha Franklin and Little Stevie Wonder.
In more recent years, television, film and music video stars have added another new feature to the theater’s history – location filming.  Today, the Orpheum continues to build on its entertainment industry memories and stands ready once again to welcome live performance and many other special events to its legendary stage.
